When an anonymous request for an unknown flower lands at the door of Felicity 'Fliss' Farrow, a magical florist cursed to tell the truth, she is intrigued - an expert in local flora, how is it possible she has not heard of this species before? Determined to unravel the mystery, she leaves the safety of the duchy to fulfil the request.

On her quest, she encounters Willoh Vane, a handsome sorcerer outcast from the duchy for his part in a disaster five years previous. Fliss knows all about Will's reputation, especially as her best friend Card is soon to marry Prince Bastion, who was victim of Will's machinations. She does not trust him, but Will proves invaluable in helping her find the mysterious plant. When two more requests appear for other similarly rare flowers, Fliss finds herself in Will's path again. He is not as he seems, and Fliss begins to think that perhaps the rumours surrounding him are unfounded ... and she cannot stop thinking about him.

As Card's wedding day approaches, Fliss suspects that the plants she has discovered may be used for a sinister purpose. But with the duchy set against Will, for the first time she is not believed. Can the two work together to avert this crisis before disaster strikes again? And is there a happy ever after waiting for them at the end?
