I bought this Graphic novel because my son said it was about Spirals ( and I am affraid of spirals) he suggested that it may help. I made him read it first to see if I would be able to enjoy it, but when I saw his face after he HAD read it I thought "oh dear, what have I gotten myself into?" Turns out this was one of the most engaging stories I have read in a long while. The artwork is beautifully haunting, the stories all flow together so seamlessly and beautifully the entire experience is creepy and fascinating - one of those things that are so awful you can't look away from them. Junji Ito has definitely earned the title of Horror master in my opinion! I am still affraid of Spirals, but thankfully this is all set in one small town a long way away from my home so I am very ok with this particular Spiral haunted town. It has a little of the flavour of Lovecraft in its themes and in the visual work, so for fans of Lovecraft this may be a winner; I know it was for both my Son and myself. We have since picked up another 2 of his books.
