Shawn Brace's world began to shift one Friday night, after a close-knit gathering in a family home. "Why does church have to be more than this?" he asked himself. It was a question that led him into Scripture, paving the way for a fresh understanding of the mission and dynamics of God's family-and eventually the re-launch of his church.

With stories from his experience, Brace paints an inspiring vision of what it looks like to participate in the mission and family of God in ways that are relevant and meaningful to a post- Christian society. If you are tired of simply going to church, find out how to start being church in your community-a family where every person is welcome at the table.

About the Author

Shawn Brace pastors in Bangor, Maine, where he lives with his wife, Camille, and their three children, Camden, Acadia and Winslow (all named after locations in Maine). Over the last few years, their ministry has shifted from being inward-focused to incarnating the gospel in their neighbourhood and city, and leading their church into greater relational and missional awareness. This led to the replanting of their church in 2018, centring it on the gospel, mission, discipleship and community.

Beyond his local ministry, Shawn is also an author, having previously written three books, and he frequently contributes to various publications. He was also recently accepted into the DPhil program at the University of Oxford, which he will pursue part-time, studying 19th-century American Christianity.
Industry Reviews
"Shawn Brace's journey has the potential not only to save the Western church from extinction but to transform it into a positive force to be reckoned with. But this new way of being the church just happens to be the old way by which the apostles turned the world upside down."
Ty Gibson, Author, Director/Speaker, Light Bearers Ministry

"Inspiring and practical, this book could forever change the way you approach your life and church."
Gary Krause, Director, Office of Adventist Mission, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
