    Comments about The Shining Girls:

Travel through time with a serial killer called Harper. The chapters are linear only in that they follow Harper as he kills people at different times between the 1930's and the mid-1990's. And in-between we follow Kirby, one of Harper's victims who managed to survive.

It is a thriller like I've not read before. Well written, characters I can empathise with, hate but be fascinated by and a page turner. I simply had to know how it all fit together and how it ended.

Lauren Beukes did a great job of the settings also. She was able to pinpoint the specific differences in each timeframe in Chicago to allow the reader to keep up with the shifts in time. She kept the story moving forward even though the time period moved backward. She provided plenty of clues to enable the reader not to get confused.

And I loved Kirby, the female protagonist. She's plucky yet vulnerable because of what happened to her but she never gives up.

If you love a good murder mystery with a difference, I highly recommend this one.
