About the Author

Jonno Proudfoot (the Chef) trained and worked in a five-times Top Ten-rated restaurant early in his career, later moving through a variety of food and wine establishments before finding his passion in Paleo and LCHF cookery. Since the birth of his interest in performance food and nutrition he has co-hosted 52 episodes of award-winning children's cooking show, What's Your Flava. He also starred in the TV reality cooking series Ultimate Braai [Barbecue] Master in 2013. On 23 March 2014, Jonno and his friend Thane Williams became the first people to swim from Mozambique to Madagascar, taking 24 days to cover an incredible 460km, thereby setting a world record for the longest open-ocean unassisted stage-swim of all time.

A useful LCHF 'how to' book

This is an excellent guide to how to do the low carb health fat (LCHF) way of eating. What to eat is very clearly described with lists and a helpful colour coding system for foods - a scale for eat freely, only sometimes, never. The book also talks about the other related things that keep your system working better such as sleep, gut health, stress etc. The suggested approach allows someone to move in stages towards keto, which may be a very helpful approach for many. After reading it, I gave it to my mother who is not interested in the science just wants to not what to do, with enough justification of why to feel informed. The story of why to lower carbs is very simply told - if you want a close reading of the scientific evidence that underpins this approach to healthy eating this book would not be the best option. Although at the end of each section the author has provided excellent suggestions for further more detailed/complex reading. Eating this way has improved my health. I have lost (so far) 25kg of excess weight without hunger - amazing!! Also I feel healthier and my blood results concur. The bottom line - if this was the only reference material you had on LCHF way of eating, and you followed what the book says to do, you will be following a good quality LCHF diet. There is a strong focus on organic, grass fed etc which may be out of financial reach. But if you use it as a guide for removing sugar and carbs from your diet and eating real foods, you will be so far ahead of where you are currently - it's worth a go!

As an avid Banter, I thought this was going to be another big recipe book. In fact it is small, 234 pages of a lot of rubbish about sleep and stress etc. Weight charts and quiz etc. for real beginners. Does have meal plans, a few broth recipes and the new lists but I had got that from the internet already. If you are familiar with Banting and low carb eating this is a waste of money.

Great book of information and recipes on low carb eating. The only down side is it's a cheaply produced paper back and won't stand up to the rough and tumble of life in a kitchen as a recipe book. I epic have bern willing to pay more for a better quality produced book.
