Few stories are as widely read and as universally cherished by children and adults alike as 'The Little Prince'. Richard Howard's new translation of the beloved classic-published to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Antoine de Saint-Exupery's birth-beautifully reflects Saint-Exupery's unique and gifted style. Howard, an acclaimed poet and one of the preeminent translators of our time, has excelled in bringing the English text as close as possible to the French, in language, style, and most important, spirit.

The artwork in this new edition has been restored to match in detail and in colour Saint-Exupery's original artwork. By combining the new translation with restored original art, Harcourt is proud to introduce the definitive English-language edition of The Little Prince. It will capture the hearts of readers of all ages.

About the Authors

Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the "Winged Poet," was born in Lyon, France, in 1900. A pilot at twenty-six, he was a pioneer of commercial aviation and flew in the Spanish Civil War and World War II. His writings include The Little Prince, Wind, Sand and Stars, Night Flight, Southern Mail, and Airman's Odyssey. In 1944, while flying a reconnaissance mission for his French air squadron, he disappeared over the Mediterranean.

Richard Howard is the author of eleven books of poetry, including 'Untitled Subjects', which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970, and 'Trappings'. He is the translator of more than 150 works from the French.

    Comments about The Little Prince:

I read this to my 7 year old daughter over several bedtime nights. We both loved it - and a book she will return to many times in her lifetime.
Everything about humanity and those foolish grown ups. A timeless classic and a must for all bookshelves. (And have a tissue handy).

My daughter wants the little prince to be her brother -

If you see him, please send word.
