What a delightful book.
The fun loving rhyme and splendiferous illustrations makes this a much sought after read in our household.
Congratulations to Emma Middleton and Briony Stewart for a superb book.
A beautiful, family-oriented picture book
This rhyming picture book is fun and family-friendly, and not only beautifully depicts father-child relationships, but also showcases imaginative play at its best. The delightful illustrations only further add to the story, with layer upon layer for children to pick up on during each read. Kids will want to pore over this picture book time and again.

The perfect book to celebrate father-child relationships
This rhyming picture book is one that children will be begging to have read to them over and over again. Not only is the text lyrical and musical (try to have the words NOT get stuck in your head!), but the words also beautifully depict the special bond between fathers and children, and the fun and hilarity of imaginative play. The bright, detailed illustrations throughout only add to the appeal. With dozens of hidden lions throughout the book for kids to find, there's something new to discover on each read through.
Highly recommended, this book is particularly perfect for Father's Day gifts for Dads, and as a present for children at Christmas and on their birthdays.

A delightful fun to read out loud gem of a picture book!
The Lion in Our Living Room, by author Emma Middleton, and illustrator Briony Stewart, is a delightful story that celebrates the joy of imagination and creative play, whilst demonstrating the special role fathers have in their children's playtime.
Tom, and his sister Tilly, together with their dog, Bessie, excitedly await the arrival of 'the mighty lion'.
'Will he come? Won't he come? Will he come and play? Will the mighty lion come and play with us today?'
This delicious refrain is destined to be chanted by children everywhere as they revel in the anticipation and suspense Tom and Tilly feel, watching and waiting for Daddy Lion to come knocking at the door.
The depth of detail in the soft pencil illustrations compliments the text beautifully and creates an extra layer within the story. My favourite illustration is the one of Tom hushing Bessie with a finger to her lips. And I wonder just how many lions could be counted in the book.
I finished reading The Lion in Our Living Room with a satisfying sigh, which is always the sign of a good story.
With its gentle rhythm and subtle rhyme this fun-to-read-out-loud picture book is sure to become a firm favourite for fun loving fathers and their rambunctious rascals.
I would recommend this story for children 3-8 years and for parents of any age.
Happily, I've just discovered there will be a follow up book by the same creative team, titled The Bear in Our Backyard, which will be released by Affirm Press just in time for Mother's Day.
Children's Picture Book with a Lion's Share of Heart
There are some children's picture books that, when you hold them in your hands, fill you with great promise, and this is one that delivered its promise.
From the moment I snuggled with my 17 month old grandson and we settled, ready for this story, I could tell the book's cover had captivated his attention. Once I began to share the story with him, he was entranced.
The book cover is a classic illustration with real vintage tones. Illustrator Briony Stewart used coloured pencils to achieve her gorgeous illustrations and show the softness and texture of each picture. There are many hidden images on each page and my grandson particularly enjoyed pointing out the hints of lions on the pages, including the shadows.
Author, Emma Middleton's use of natural rhythmical and rhyming text is an absolute delight to hear and begs to be read aloud. The text is light, witty and playful. It charms, captivates and entices young readers, 'Will he come? Won't he come? Will he come and play?' It teases, beckons and leads the reader on a gentle story about a beautiful relationship between a father and his children, Tilly and Tom.
I highly recommend this Children's Picture Book for younger children. This is a book that provides an opportunity to open up discussions about dads and their kids, and it also could be used as a springboard into some fun arts and crafts, songs and games.

Fantastic and fun
A stunning, rhyming story that kept my students guessing. They loved finding all the hidden lions in the illustrations (there is more than you think), the rhyme and the repeating refrain. The story and illustrations kept the children engaged and we had to re-read it to go back and find all the lions. Everyone would enjoy this book and it would make a great Father's Day gift. Can't wait to see more books by Emma and Briony.
A wonderful book for young children! A highly engaging, enthralling and well constructed text complimented by humorous drawings that are full of life. Highly recommended as a gift for young children (my kids keep bringing it to me and can't ever get enough).
My children love this beautifully written, rhyming picture book. They delight in the suspense over the lions arrival, and enjoy looking for all the hidden lion clues in the pictures. I highly recommend this book for its sense of fun, creativity, and depiction of family love.
My children's new favourite!
This book is fast becoming my children's new favourite. They have already asked for multiple readings, and they love it when the lion finally appears. The rhyme is lovely to read and they enjoy looking for the hidden clues in the pictures. Highly recommended.
