Impoverished Stella Myles meets the enigmatic Montgomery in a Piccadilly ballroom and he orchestrates a job for her as governess with the wealthy, secretive Ainsworth family at their country estate. Stella struggles to fit in – although nothing proves so challenging as restraining her emotions for the mysterious Douglas Ainsworth.

When they all venture aboard a cruise ship, tensions reach impossible heights. Stella finds herself in dangerous new territory, and in possession of an incendiary document that she must get to London at all costs.

From the rolling countryside of Kent to the colourful souks of Morocco, this is a heart-stopping novel of romance, intrigue and danger – and a passion to risk dying for.

Industry Reviews

'Sure to appeal to lovers of period romantic dramas like Downton Abbey.' WOMAN'S DAY

'Fiona McIntosh is a superior writer in the genre, and if you enjoy popular romantic fiction, you'd be mad not to try her.' THE AGE

Plot too contrived

1

I was disappointed with this book. Set in pre war 1930's, it just did not seem to ring true to me. I was wondering whether there were anachronisms ...eg black nail varnish in 1933? Hotels in Morocco with ensuite bathrooms? I could be wrong!! For two people having known each other for such a short time, the ending, set five years later, was too " happily ever after!" Not for everyone! On one page, the Andes, not the Atlas Mts were mentioned in Morocco.
