"The Israelites" is a concise yet comprehensive introduction to the people of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah up to the razing and renaming of Jerusalem and the virtual destruction of Palestine by Hadrian in A.D. 135. Drawing on Biblical, archaeological, historical and critical sources, Antony Kamm traces the history of the Israelites against the turbulent background of the times, and describes their society, religion and ultimate dispersal through the ancient world. The text is complemented by charts, maps, photographs and line drawings, and appendices provide a chronology, weights and measures, and the Jewish Calendar. Accessible and user-friendly, "The Israelites" will be indispensable for students and general readers as a starting point for the history, culture, and development of the people of Israel.
