Booktopia Comments

I am not going to even try and disguise it in any way: I am completely in love with Doust's approach to crafting. Using entirely recycled materials from around the house, she creates useful new things like tea cosies, baby bibs, aprons, lampshades, shopping bags, and children's toys from old woollens. Iron on appliqués are just about the only new things you might need to buy and these will be worth the personalised touch they add to your new creations (such as a baby's initials on a bib or your own tea towels). The projects are sorted by season according to what you will be wanting (ie a beach bag in summer and leg warmers in winter). Patterns and dimensions are included, such as the feeding pillow, day-nap eye patch and a variety of templates for creatures to adorn your projects.
Product Description
The Crafty Minx is about making gorgeous things from pre-loved, remnant and vintage items. It is written especially for non-crafters who are desperate to be more creative but don't know how, and shares the delicious rewards of living with and giving away beautiful handmade objects. Including over 75 projects which give traditional crafts a modern makeover - from brightly patterned summer beach bags and cotton apron tops to cosy lambs' wool throws and cashmere-covered hot water bottles, or a soft toy for a friend's new baby - this book is broken down into the four seasons of the year for easy inspiration. No matter where you live or what your circumstances, discover just how easy it is to be a crafty minx.

About The Author

Kelly Doust has been scouring flea markets and charity stores for vintage fashion, fabrics and homewares from her early teens, and making and reinventing things in her own trial-and-error way since she was a girl. Her favourite things, in no particular order, are tea, clothes, friends, home, crafternoons, and her husband and daughter. Before writing The Crafty Minx, The Crafty Kid and Life in Frocks, Kelly worked in book publishing and public relations in Sydney, Hong Kong and London, and as a freelance writer. She is a regular contributor to Australian Women’s Weekly and Vogue.
