Take an authoritative, thorough, and heavily illustrated look at Triumph motorcycles, from beloved classics to popular new models!

What do Marlon Brando, James Dean, Steve McQueen, Bob Dylan, and Arthur Fonzerelli all have in common? All of these men define the very essence of cool, and all have owned Triumph motorcycles.

Originally formed as a bicycle company in 1885, in 1902 Triumph produced its first motorcycle, which was simply a bicycle fitted with a Belgian Minerva engine. From there, the company, in various iterations, went on to build some of the most iconic motorcycles of all time.

For the first time ever, The Complete Book of Classic and Modern Triumph Motorcycles 1937-Today collects all of the motorcycles from this iconic brand in a single volume. Written by respected Triumph expert Ian Falloon, all of the major and minor models are covered, with an emphasis on the most exemplary, era-defining motorcycles such as the Thunderbird, Tiger, Trophy, Bonneville, and new machines such as the Speed Triple, Thruxton, and Daytona 675.

The Complete Book of Classic and Modern Triumph Motorcycles 1937-Today will also feature important non-production models and non-factory racing and speed-record-setting motorcycles that have become integral parts of Triumph's stellar reputation. This is a book no Triumph fan will want to be without!

Best treated as a reference work

I bought this on the recommendation of a local magazine as background information on an older model Triumph which I was considering buying at the time - in particular, to check out something I had been told about severe reliability problems with the model in question. After reading Ian's earlier work on Moto Guzzi, I was hoping for a rather more entertaining read. Certainly the story is still there, but folded into what is essentially a year-by-year account of model changes. There wasn't much in it that I hadn't already gained from my earlier reading of Bert Hopwood, Hughie Hancock and the like, though what there was, was well written as all Ian's stuff is. You need to be aware that this is a very solid (coffee-table size) and comprehensive volume covering every single Triumph introduced from 1937 through to the current decade. That means a lot of the information is superfluous if you're only interested in a particular model, though it remains extremely useful for purposes like establishing the authenticity of the bike you've bought or are looking at. If you want a really good and authoritative reference work on Triumphs, this is probably the one to go for. However, if you're just interested in a particular model series, and looking for something of a flavour of what they were like to ride and own, and what goes wrong with them today, then there are cheaper and more specialised works which will probably meet your need better.
