            Comments about The Cheeky Monkey:

I had searched for information on comedy from a writers point of view and found the information on the internet to be very selective and sporadic.

I was more then happy to discover the best book on comedy, the new comedy bible "The Cheeky Monkey" was written by one the the Doug Anthony All Stars! Tim Ferguson. It's comprehensive and provides great examples of the multitude of comedic devices used by writers and performers.

                Comments about The Cheeky Monkey:

I write thriller novels and was looking for something that outlined the principles behind writing narrative comedy and this was just what I needed. Well constructed, excellent examples and comprehensive.
Tim has deconstructed what to most of us is a skill that is more inherited than learned, and he has shown that it is possible to learn to write humour.
I would compare the nature of this book to a magician giving away his secrets.
I particularly enjoyed the character analysis, which is not dissimilar to writing drama, as Tim points out, and I also gained a great deal from the different styles of comic writing.
Now the challenge is writing something funny. Thinking, thinking... give me a few more minutes I need to check Tim's book again.
