The new book from Scott Pape, the Barefoot Investor. The Barefoot Investor: The Only Money Guide You'll Ever Need is a phenomenon, sprinting through one million copies to become one of the best selling Australian books ever. Why is it so successful? It's simple, funny and practical. And it has changed people's lives.

The eagerly anticipated follow-up, The Barefoot Investor for Families, sticks to the same script. It's aimed fairly and squarely at parents, grandparents, and basically anyone who read that book and said:

'Why the hell wasn't I taught this years ago?'

Scott lays out ten money milestones kids need to have nailed before they leave home, and it's all structured around one family 'money meal' each week (so roughly 20 minutes).

If you follow the roadmap, with tailor-made lessons for each age group, your kids will know how to do things like:

  • Learn the life-changing value of hard work
  • Set up a fee-free bank account (or jam jars!)
  • Go on a Treasure Hunt around the house, and sell some of their 'stuff' second-hand
  • Save your parents $100 on household bills
Even ...

Learn to cook at least two low-cost, delicious, nutritious meals from scratch.
Scott's mission is to make sure your kids are financially strong so they never, ever get sucked into the traps that middle-aged bankers have devised to rob them of their money and their confidence.

There are only ten things every kid needs to know about money, and you can teach them over dinner, once a week.

It's that simple.

Start now - it's never too early or too late.

Scott Pape has a knack of delivering some difficult subject matter with simple language and humour. I wish I had been given a book like this as a teen when I received my first employment! A great reference book for families to come back to whilst teaching their children the art of mindfulness about money and how to save, earn and spend!

I recently became employed in the financial industry and during traing the Barefoot Investor was mentioned and one of my colleagues had recommended the book. As I have a child I decided the family version would be the way to go as I also wanted to teach her the value of the almighty dollar. I was not disappointed by this book and as I explained to my child how povket money would work from now on and she would need to start doing regular chores to receive money she was 100% on board with the idea. My daughter has her three chores which she does without complaint and receives her allowance every Sunday after dessert like clock work.

Brilliant book. I couldn't put it down. A passionate, caring, humble, helpful author, with so much to offer. I bought 5 copies. One for myself and a copy each for my 4 children, hopefully to use on their children. So easy to read with a touch of humor added. This book is set out in very simple terms and ways to understand. I am recommending this book to all my friends and extended family.

In this world of uncertainty it is essential that younger people know how to deal with money to set them up and this must start at a young age to make it easier for them and to avoid the pitfalls.
