Following a presentation to Men's Shed members by Doctor Dan, a diabetic specialist, which explained the link between being overweight and diabetes, and the perils of diabetes, I decided to buy this book. Beforehand, based on testimonies from acquaintances who had dramatically reduced their weight, I had purchased Dr Michael Mosely's "Fast Diet" book, and already started weight reduction using that method. Although I'm not diabetic, having heard the presentation about the health complications, I certainly didn't want to risk an onset. "The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet" appeals to me because it accelerates the rate of weight reduction I've experienced by using the Fast or 5:2 Diet. The scientific basis for the method also appeals because it isn't just another fad diet. The information turns long held notions of diet for diabetics on their heads. Dramatically reducing or eliminating high energy carbohydrates (sugars and starches in all their forms) is the basis of the method. The weight loss essentially drains fat deposits from the liver and pancreas enabling them to resume normal function and eliminating elevated blood sugar levels and the need for medication. Marvellous!
