About the Author

Emma spent her childhood in Wellington listening to stories, reading books and making forts in the bush with Emma Vere-Jones smlher brother. She now lives in Auckland, where she listens to stories, reads books and makes sandcastles on the beach with her husband and kids. Late at night, when the kids are in bed, she can often be found writing in a local café or bar.

In 2014 her manuscript, Stan the Van Man, was selected as the winner of the Storylines Joy Cowley Award and is due to be published in August 2015. Emma has had articles published in a numerous health and legal publications in the UK and Europe, where she worked as a journalist for more than a decade. She was also a regular contributor to UK children’s magazine Anorak.

Still unsure of what she’d like to do when she ‘grows up’, Emma has previously worked as a journalist, aerobics instructor, postie, flower seller, bar person, bouncer and tea lady. Most recently she has been a full time Mum to her two young kids – a role which demands the skills of a teacher, a cook, a peace-negotiator, a healer of hearts and cut knees, and, of course, a storyteller.
