Good weeknight cooking books with simple, delicious recipes are indispensable and sought-after, but they are few and far between. Small Victories fills this need for home cooks of all skill levels via 100 practical ‘experiments’ that inspire and inform, demystifying cooking one technique at a time.

These ‘experiments’ are fail-proof recipes, divided into 9 chapters by type of dish (breakfast, soups, grains and beans, fish, and so on). 100 light, bright, and minimally propped colour photographs will show plated food, process, Julia and Grace’s home and gathering for meals with friends. This is a thoughtful, strategic cookbook from a highly relatable author who narrates the book with warmth and humour.

About the Author

Julia Turshen, co-author of such cookbooks as Gwyneth Paltrow's It's All Good, Dana Cowin's Mastering My Mistakes in the Kitchen, The Fat Radish Kitchen Diaries and Hot Bread Kitchen, is a writer, recipe developer, television producer and former host of Radio Cherry Bombe, among other things. She lives in upstate New York with her wife, Grace Bonney, and dogs.

Her writing has appeared in Vogue, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Cherry Bombe. She is a regular recipe contributor to Food52.com, epicurious.com, gourmet.com, and medium.com. She was a member of the original television production crew on PBS' Spain... on the Road Again and The Kimchi Chronicles, and from May 2014 to May 2015 she hosted Cherry Bombe Radio on Heritage Radio Network.

"This is Ms. Turshen's first cookbook as a solo author, but she has co-written others with the likes of Mario Batali, Gwyneth Paltrow and Dana Cowin. She's also a recipe tester and developer-a skill that shines through in a book aimed at aspiring, eager home cooks; you won't find any molecular gastronomy in these pages. Ms. Turshen is a self-deprecating, warm and charming writer."-- Wall Street Journal
