In the novel, "Siddhartha," a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then, restless, discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near despair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of his life -- the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace, and, finally, wisdom.

i really reaaly like this book

I read this book after a casual mention of it in another book I was reading. Having more than a passing interest in Buddhism, I read it, loved it. Keep thinking about it many months later, so purchased this edition for my niece. i hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

A good read

I really enjoyed this read.

Great book!

Fantastic story that has a beautiful truth to it. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, without some contact with Buddhist or Indian philosophy some of the terms may require googling but the underlying message is universal.
