This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.

Everyone on the station agreed the little robot was gone for good. Not one of them had actually looked.

A warm, hopeful cozy science fiction novella for grown-ups, perfect for readers who love a low-stakes, big-heart comfort read with a found-family crew, a gentle mystery, and robots worth keeping.

Woo is a small, much-mended household robot: loved by half the stallholders on the crowded bazaar-station of Tassel's Landing, and properly minded by none of them. So when Woo simply vanishes, the whole Landing settles its verdict within the hour. Stolen for parts. Scrapped. Sold downwell. The ordinary, sad fate of a worn-out little unit. No point looking.

Robot wrangler Roy and the crew of the barge The Marigold will not have it. Where others reboot, wipe, or scrap, Roy listens, and a thing the whole station agrees on, he knows, is simply a thing nobody has troubled to check.

So Roy declines the easy, sad conclusion and does the harder thing. You cannot listen to a robot who has gone, but you can read what it left behind, and Woo left a great deal: a hinge quietly mended, a stray fed, a stall minded for a friend, a worry eased. The crowd walked straight past them. Roy begins to read them as a trail. But the crew's eager hunt for a thief frightens the very people whose small memories hold that trail together, and Roy must slow everyone right down, because a runaway is almost always running toward something, not away.

If you love the gentle, hopeful futures of Becky Chambers, the cozy found-family warmth of Travis Baldree, or the tender humour of T.J. Klune, pull up a chair by the warm. This is comfort reading for adults: cozy sci-fi, low on peril, high on heart, with no on-page violence and no one thrown away.

Every Robot Wrangler Roy book is a complete standalone wrangle. Read them in any order. Put the kettle on. You will be looked after in here.
