For Daniel Shaw to really start living, death had to come first. In life he was selfish, tested the boundaries and chose to cut out certain parts of himself. Dead within two weeks of his eighteenth birthday, a reborn Shaw bursts into the afterlife as a gargoyle: a protector of those who believe. Encased in stone during daylight hours, Daniel breaks free each night to struggle with his own death and the new purpose put in front of him. While trying to sort out what really matters, what's right, and what life is all about, he meets other undead creatures, including a vampire he is told to destroy.
