In this exciting new adventure, Rainbow Fish is torn between his newfound friends and a lonely striped fish who is not allowed to join the group because he lacks a shiny scale. When a dangerous and hungry shark suddenly appears, Rainbow Fish must decide: Should he risk losing his new friends - maybe even his life - for the little stranger? The sequel to the bestseller "The Rainbow Fish" is now available in a glittering board book edition for the very young. "The gently implied themes of sharing and friendship in the first story are expanded here to include courage".--"School Library Journal". AUTHOR: Marcus Pfister lives in Switzerland. He studied art in Berne, and has been a graphic designer and illustrator since leaving college. He worked in Zurich for two years before touring Canada, the USA and Mexico. He is the author and illustrator of many books for North-South, including Penguin Pete, Milo and the Magical Stones and The Sleepy Owl. His style is characterised by the use of simple shapes with soft outlines. The glittering Rainbow Fish is his most popular creation. Illustrated. Full color.

Industry Reviews

A sequel to Rainbow Fish (1992), this morality tale begins when Rainbow Fish and his new friends, all ensconced in flashing scales, won't let a striped fish without a flashing scale play with them. When a shark threatens the outsider, the other fish (with the Rainbow Fish in the lead) repent, rescue it, and invite it to join in their game. The green-blue-purple illustrations have a luminous, underwater feel, and the fish - with colorful, sparkling scales, puffy lips, and big, expressive eyes - look quite sympathetic. This simple book, short and sweet, will be a hit with preschool students of ethics as well as fans of the first glittering book. (Kirkus Reviews)
