Fusion energy research and development is entering a new phase with ITER, the world's largest tokamak fusion facility. The tokamak device concept is the most developed in fusion energy research. However, there are still unresolved critical issues, particularly related to the control of huge currents in a tokamak plasma. The Stellarator-heliotron device is another promising concept that does not need these plasma currents.
