"The buggy-eyed insects, crabs, and snails provide an appealing cast of characters who stand up to be counted against a summertime palette of orange sand and blue skies." - KIRKUS REVIEWS

AS SOON AS IT ARRIVED, OUR 4YEAR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER WANTED IT READ TO HER & THEN TOOK IT TO PRESCHOOL, WHERE IT WAS ALSO READ. MY SON WILL READ IT TO HIS DAUGHTER AS IT IS RELEVANT. MY TEACHER SON WILL USE IT FOR HIS STRUGGLING YEAR 6 STUDENTS BUT I IMAGINE WILL DISCUSS ARTWORK * GENERAL PRESENTATION WITH THE ENTIRE CLASS. MY FRIEND, A TEACHER OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN WILL USE IT FOR BASIC CONCEPTS AS WELL AS DISCUSSING TH ESTORY & ARTWORK.

a bit more advanced than I expected

It's a little too old for our two year old. Kids who are learning to count, add and multiply will get more out of it.

"The buggy-eyed insects, crabs, and snails provide an appealing cast of characters who stand up to be counted against a summertime palette of orange sand and blue skies." Seeing patterns and different ways of calculation are standard concepts of mathematical reasoning, but there is nothing standard about this creative counting book . . . The buggy-eyed insects, crabs, and snails provide an appealing cast of characters who stand up to be counted against a summertime palette of orange sand and blue skies.--Kirkus Reviews This husband-and-wife team (HUMMINGBIRDS: THE SUN CATCHERS) puts a beach community's best feet forward and simultaneously explores the myriad ways that numbers can combine.--Publishers Weekly Quite simply, this provides little arithmeticians with something they'll actually get a kick out of counting. . . . All groupings are arranged for easy enumeration by kids not quite ready to make the leap to intuitive multiplication.--Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (starred review)
