Compelling Reading

5

These books were so hard to put down and I couldn't wait to see how the story ends. The very best bit was looking at war, loss and tragedy through the eyes of a child who has not got any cynisism in him. I can't wait to see how his journey ends. I bought the rest of the series as soon as I could and am now enjoying the third book.

Wow!

I grew up before MG was writing so this is the first time I have read any of his work. I bought this for a friend's son but wanted to read it beforehand. Wow! The language is deceptively simple but the story zooms along and the horror of the situation is clearly conveyed. As an adult reader I was gripped and I imagine younger readers will also be hooked.
