From political leaders and human rights activists to rap musicians and NBA basketball stars, this diverse collection of mini-biographies documents the contributions of fifty male and fifty female Muslims to a huge array of disciplines and professions. With eighty-five of the one hundred figures profiled alive today, and many interviewed personally by Natana Delong-Bas, Notable Muslims combines a modern focus with fascinating facts about the lives of prominent Muslims from past and present.

As an exploration and celebration of what it means to be a Muslim, it offers a colourful counterpoint to the stereotypes of religious fundamentalism and terrorism. Innovative and easy to read, it is a rich source of inspiration for all those committed to intercultural understanding in the modern world.

Industry Reviews

John L. Esposito - Founding Director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, and Editor of The Oxford Dictionary of Islam. "The vast majority of Muslims today, as in the past when Islamic civilisation was a world civilisation, are builders and not simply destroyers of civilisation and culture. Natana DeLong-Bas's Notable Muslims is an important and engaging profile of the life and accomplishments of some one hundred Muslims, from diverse national and cultural backgrounds and social classes, and their significant contributions to the development of their societies and the global community."
