From the Kate Greenaway Medalist comes this charming story of an indomitable and appealingly offbeat woman who finds liberation and new friends out on the open road.
From the inside front cover:
Hold on to your seatbelt: the indomitable Anastasia Armitage and her faithful dog Breakspear are off on another wacky adventure - and it's sure to be a bumpy but exhilarating ride.
When Mrs Armitage finds a letter on her doormat one morning, she learns that her Uncle Cosmo is giving her a car as a present.
The old jalopy does not look particularly exciting to Mrs Armitage. But she and Breakspear are ready to take it for a spin.
Mrs Armitage is, of course, an extremely careful driver. But she and her dog are not long on their way before they encounter a few minor obstacles. Nonetheless, the ever-resourceful Mrs Armitage remains undaunted.
Make way for Mrs Armitage, Queen of the Road!
About the Author
Born in 1932 in Sidcup, Kent, Quentin Blake has been drawing ever since he can remember and has always made his living as an illustrator. He has also taught and for ten years was Head of the Illustration Department at the Royal College of Art. He is now a visiting tutor. He is the major illustrator of Roald Dahl and has also collaborated with other well-known authors such as Joan Aiken and Russell Hoban.
"Blake's images of Angela fretting and fawning over her beloved bird are hilarious, revealing a range of exaggerated expressions on the face of the wild-eyed critter, who seems to know exactly how ludicrous he looks.... Appealingly off-beat, this droll tale is classic Blake."
