About the Author
Merle Parrish is the 78-year-old newest sensation to come out of MasterChef. A supreme cake baker for more than 70 years, Merle has won just about every prize there is to win in the competitive baking world. Merle lives in Cudal, near Orange, in northern NSW, where she still competes regularly in CWA competitions. She recently won the inaugural Donna Latter Memorial Trophy for her Supreme Chocolate Cake.

I loved this book so much that I immediately purchased Merle's other book. It's back to basics, good old fashioned recipes and I love it. The only thing you need to watch is eg. I baked a slice that required 3 weetbix (or 2 cups).I used 3 weetbix and didn't check that it equalled 2 cups) No fault of the author. My god weetbix have shrunk and I didn't realise.The slice was still delicious though !!!!
Looking forward to the next book. My 2014 resolution is to do a Merle and Julie rendition of Julie and Julia movie and cook EVERYTHING in both books this year. Four recipes down and many to go.

Let's face it, you don't always have the time or inclination to whip up an Adriano recipe. This is the best collection ever of basic cakes, slices and biscuits. Every recipe I have tried has worked and tasted great. I'll give Merle a gold star any day.
