About the Author

Matt Preston is a food journalist, restaurant critic, television personality and passionate home cook. He writes a national column for the Taste section for all News Ltd's metropolitan papers. Best known as a judge on MasterChef Australia since 2009, Preston currently writes for delicious and MasterChef magazines. A keen home-cook, Matt Preston has written recipes for Delicious, MasterChef magazine and Taste for several years, taking home classics and adding his own Preston twist, bringing a whole new world of flavour to the everyday.

I own over 500 cookbooks and all of the Matt Preston Books are used more frequently than all the rest. He is not a CHEF and doesn't expect his readers to be either. He knows good simple food. Having kids, he understands that recipes need to be fairly child friendly, so his food ( unlike some) is not laden with chilli and ingredients only found at boutique suppliers. You can buy all of the ingredients in the local supermarket or butcher. I LOVE the 4 ways with: bought puff pastry / sausages / a supermarket roast chook / left over bolognaise etc. This is a food writer who hasn't lost touch with reality and what the average home chef is capable of or has the TIME to do. Love this book!!!!!!!!!

Matt Preston

Matt Preston is a food journalist and restaurant critic. Best known for his weekly restaurant column in The Age newspaper's food section, 'Epicure', and as a judge on MasterChef Australia, Preston is also an editor of Vogue Entertaining + Travel and Delicious magazines, and a former Creative Director of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.


In 2009 Preston joined Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris on the judging panel of the first season of MasterChef Australia, a reality television competition to find Australia's best home cook. Preston is a contributor to The Age Good Food Guide and Food and Wine (US).

In 2003, 2004 and 2006 Preston won Food Media Club of Australia awards for articles which appeared in the 'Epicure' section of The Age, and in 2008 he won the Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards, Food Journalist of the Year Award for articles published in Delicious and 'Epicure'.
