A manifesto for Liberal Party supporters around Australia.

In this timely book, John Ruddick calls for the Liberal Party of Australia to be brought not so much into the 21st century but rather into the latter part of the 20th century. The principal parties in almost all comparative democracies have in the last century become significantly more open, transparent and democratic than either of Australia's principal parties.

Ruddick has been at the forefront of democratic reform within the Liberal Party for three decades. Make the Liberal Party Great Again is the culmination of his efforts and a call to arms. The book argues the Liberal Party should abandon the confl icted party room ballot to select the Liberal Party candidate for prime minister and introduce historic democratic reform that will invite all paid up Liberal Party members to have a vote on the most consequential decision the party makes. It's far from radical ... its actually the Westminster norm in the 21st century.

About the Author

John Ruddick has been an advocate of democratic reform within the NSW Liberal Party since the mid-1990s and on two occasions his efforts have almost had him expelled from the party. He has written opinion pieces about politics and history for The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, The Spectator, Quadrant, The Drum and The Guardian and occasionally appears on Sky News. When not advocating political reform he has run a North Sydney based mortgage broking business since 2002.

For disgruntled Liberal voters

5

All around us, Liberal voters in particular are very disappointed in the performance of the supposedly Conservative political party in Australia. They are livid that under the 2 party preferred system, where you must preference one of the 2 major parties or your vote becomes informal, we are becoming a one party state with almost no difference in policy between Liberal and Labor. This book explains the political process within the Liberal party from an insider who fully understands the archaic and corrupt structure of the Australian Liberal party, NSW in particular. The book presents the depressing problems and also the solutions, justified by compelling evidence. For novice Liberal supporters and more dedicated supporters, this book is a worthwhile and inspiring read. To summarize, the bottom line is that disgruntled Liberal party voters must become Liberal party members to flush out the insidious influence of factional leaders and traitors to the Menzies legacy that have infiltrated the party. This is the only way the Liberal party can be saved when the upcoming election will almost certainly see an annihilation of the party, not only in votes and elected MPs, but also in terms of funding. One key point missing in the book for disgruntled Liberal voters is that joining the party is good value. If the party can be democratized, with members dictating policy (a superb example of the wisdom of crowds is described in the book) power bills will be reduced by substantially more than party membership. This is real value for money. For all those disgruntled Liberal voters out there that care for the political future of Australia, I would thoroughly recommend this book as an inspiration to do more than just complain about our pathetic political overlords. "All that is required for the triumph of evil is that good men shall do nothing"-Edmund Burke. "One of the pitfalls of being too clever for politics is that you find yourself being ruled by your inferiors"-Plato.
