Limit States of Compressed Concrete Elements by Transverse Deformations

The theoretical stress-strain model for compressed concrete, proposed by Iskhakov and Ribakov in 2018, is based on the structural phenomenon and requires no empirical coefficients. This model describes the ascending and descending branches of the stress-strain diagram and includes the following main parameters describing concrete behavior: stresses and strains corresponding to the border between the elastic and non-elastic behavior stages of a concrete specimen, ultimate elastic strains, and stresses and strains at the end of the post-peak region. Particular attention was focused on the descending branch of the stress-strain diagram, as well as on concrete elastic and plastic potentials analysis. These potentials are important for assessing the dynamic response of the concrete element section, as well as for concrete creep analysis.

The book presents experimental and numerical results confirming the above-mentioned theoretical model. Additionally, it deals with experimental verification of theoretical models of cracking and failure scheme for cylindrical specimens. Importance of using transverse deformations for analysis of initiation and development of inelastic deformations in concrete specimens subjected to relatively high loading rates is verified. It is demonstrated that the obtained experimental and numerical results are in good agreement with the theoretical ones, which confirms the modelâs accuracy and enables a significant reduction of empirical coefficients number in compressed concrete elements design.
