OzHarvest is excited to announce that we have commissioned our first children's book!
Written by Jessica Chapnik Kahn and illustrated by Matthew Martin, Lenny and the Ants is a fun and warm-hearted story for children of all ages.
Together with Lenny the Roo, children go on a journey to discover a whole new way to think about food. There are even some recipes to try!
About the Author
Born in Argentina and immigrating to Sydney as a child, Jessica Chapnik Kahn is an actor and singer-songwriter. She has toured the world playing in the bands of some of Australia’s finest artists, composed 4 albums with long-time collaborator Ben Lee, as well as releasing her own solo music under the moniker, Appleonia. She has collaborated on multiple film soundtracks, including Joel and Nash Edgerton’s thriller ‘The Square’, with the album going on to be nominated for an ARIA and AFI award.
As an actor Jessica trained under David Mamet at the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School in New York. Working in TV, film and theatre both in Australia and the US, Jessica is probably best known for her two-year role as Sam Tolhurst/Holden in Home and Away.
In 2016, Jessica became a mother to her baby boy Lev, who was the inspiration for penning the children’s book Lenny and the Ants. Currently in production is the release of her poetry book, M A D R E.
About the Illustrator
Matthew Martin was born in Broken Hill and grew up in Adelaide. He has lived in Sydney since 1981 except for eleven years in New York 1990-2001.
Matthew’s drawings have been published in The Sydney Morning Herald, The New York Times, Time magazine and The Times (London). He has illustrated books for both adults and children, animated music videos, designed posters and drawn funny pictures to be printed on T-shirts for surf wear brand Mambo.

OzHarvest’s education programs include: NEST - tailor made workshops that support people in need with nutrition education and life skills, Nourish - a hospitality training program for ‘at risk’ youth, FEAST – a curriculum aligned program for primary school kids and Fight Food Waste – to inspire behavioural change to prevent food waste at home. It operates nationally in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Cairns, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Perth and in regional communities
