The last year has seen the largest and most comprehensive reform of coronial law in the UK since the early 19th century. The UK's new Coroners & Justice Act impacts every aspect of the inquest, and this comprehensive new book lays out both the substantive law and new procedure following the 2010 legislation. The whole coronial process is laid out in distinct chapters, beginning with pre-inquest hearings and concluding with the use of verdicts in subsequent civil and criminal litigation, providing the reader with practical guidance, from the beginning to the end of the process. Written by John Cooper, who has appeared in a number of high-profile inquests and has a large amount of knowledge in the field, this is an invaluable reference for both the practitioner and student of this fast developing area of law.

... very useful, instructive and full of gems...a very valuable book on a topic, which is not written about enough. It has an index and another deatiled index and the table of cases is most impressive, being international, substantial and up-to-date. There is also a table on international statutes and a table of Civil Procedure Rules, Coroners Rules and Criminal Procedure Rules and a comprehnsive index. The splendid thing about this book is that it can be relied upon, as vouched for by the foreword wrirrten by Sir Igor Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. The Internet cannot be relied on, especially as writings are often not updated, but in this little volume is a comprehensive and thoroughly recommended handbook on Coroners Courts. Sally Ramage The Criminal Lawyer August 2011 This new volume compresses the law relating to Inquests into manageable proportions, and is written in crisp and readily understood language. It will be of great assistance to all those who work in or have an interest in this sensitive area of the legal system. From the Foreword by Igor Judge
