If we are to halt the planetary and social Destructions which are the hallmark of the threats we face in the 21st century then the dominance of barbaric philosophy must be challenged and overturned. Barbarism is a deeply relational issue which has been rapidly eroding the global social fabric and human quality of life. When we understand that barbarism is a dangerous philosophy which poses real threat to human survival and that its penetration into civilized life can be resisted, then we can effectively marshal our resources for response. It is the premise of this text that clearer identification of, and resistance to, barbarism at every level, including that of our own consciousness, intimate relationships, interpersonal lives, our clubs, groups, societies and nations, is central to the transformation of human civilization. Anti-barbarism is about moving to egalitarian, enlightened societies where care and human relationship are protected, central, motivating and legislated values. We live in an era where barbaric acts against the poor and the defenceless, even conducted by the wealthiest and the most powerful, are condoned or ignored by the majority. This sense of apathy in regards to injustice must be addressed. Luckily we have a catalogue of human history demonstrating that mediocre and shallow people have not always been adulated and that humans are capable of far greater aspirations.
