In a thrilling continuation of the Spencer Manning Mystery series, Spencer takes us from Chicago to Door County, Wisconsin, a quaint resort area with all the history and charm of a cozy vacation spot. When Spencer's old girlfriend is accused of stealing her own painting and then vanishes without a trace, Spencer suspects something more sinister than art theft. That's when the murders begin. When another painting is reported stolen from the gallery in Chicago, the mystery deepens because the painting is worthless. So why was it stolen?

The gallery is in Chicago, and the murders are in Door County. Trying to find the connection leads Spencer to a Chicago crime boss, a police chief who is not fond of Spencer's snooping, and a handful of questionable characters all of whom may not be what they seem. The mystery deepens when kidnapping is added to the list. But who has been kidnapped? With help from some unexpected sources, Spencer lays a trap for a daring rescue.

All of Spencer's friends return for an entertaining tale of murder and intrigue on the streets of Chicago.
Industry Reviews
In this third Spencer Manning mystery, author Rick Polad proves that he has mastered the Agatha Christie model of crafting highly entertaining murder mysteries. Spencer is immensely likable for a private investigator, a guy who does favors and looks out for his friends, even his ex-girlfriend.

In this tale of a missing painting, and equally missing artist, Polad introduces us to some new and extremely colorful characters-it's fun to spend time with them. Even scenic Door County in Wisconsin becomes a fascinating character in the unfolding drama. As in all good mysteries, what seems to be true is not yet Spencer finds a way to unravel the surprising truth even when he hardly seems to break a sweat. This is one P.I. you don't want to miss." -Gary Lindberg, #1 Bestselling author of The Shekinah Legacy and Sons of Zadok

This is a great summer read! The descriptions of Door County reminds me of the times we vacationed in this beautiful piece of Cheese land. The descriptions of the islands was new to me and fit well into the storyline. The continuing development of the main character keeps me engaged and the interaction between the main character and CPD is some great dialogue. The story line was believable (although I kept saying to myself, that Spenser was doing is a lot of driving). I was totally surprised by how the book ended (was not able to guess it) which is one of the reasons I enjoy this author. -Michael J. Walsh

Harbor Nights was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It is one of those rare books that stirred mixed emotions - the plot was so good that I wanted to race through the book to discover how it ends, yet I enjoyed the prose so much that I didn't want it to end. With Spencer Manning as the protagonist it is, of course, a mystery but one not encumbered with gratuitous violence. The plot was outstanding, the characters believable, the Door County setting was enjoyably described, and the writing was excellent. This is the third Spencer Manning mystery I've read and am eagerly awaiting the next book. -Michael E. Merriman

I downloaded ""Harbor Nights."" on May 16 and finished within a week. I couldn't put it down. This is the third Spencer Manning book that I read and can't wait for the next one, I hope Mr. Polad has started writing the 4th book. When the movie is made, I want to play the part of Stosh. Couldn't help getting hungry, because Mr. Manning is always cooking a steak with baked potato, burgers with fries, bacon and eggs and oh that cherry pie. I could literally taste it. -Anthony J. Barone

This series is fantastic! If you like mysteries with a sense of humor and ""fun,"" this is a must-have. A nice relaxing read, yet it keeps you hanging if you have to put it down. Bravo! -Karen Bedore
