About The Author

Eileen Browne worked as a school teacher and a youth worker before becoming an author and illustrator, with her first book being published in 1977. She believes that certain groups of people are not well represented in children’s books, so she gives priority to multi-cultural and female characters. Eileen was born in Birmingham, but now lives in Wiltshire.

I love Africa, and I love the words and pictures in this book (the sequel, Handa's Hen, is even better!). I have ticked 'reference' because you could really use this as an educational too to study the different African animals that appear in the book - There is a guide to the name of each one in the back of the book which is great, especially if you have a preschooler who loves to ask "what's that called, Mum??" :-)
