My daughter received the 8-12 year old book for Christmas and after devouring that, quickly requested this one for her birthday! Two thumbs up from both of us!

Buying for younger siblings

I was given this when I was 13 and it was such a good reference for anything I felt to awkward to ask my parents about and general advice. Now that I have younger siblings heading into highschool next year I thought I would pass on the same books and knowledge to them.

Perfect book for teenage girls

5

This book is a must for teenage girls - especially the ones in the tricky 12 - 15 range. This is a no-nonsense really sensible, engaging, factual but not boring and most importantly FUNNY take on growing up and how to manage it. It is very much about empowering young girls to think for themselves. It has a strong emphasis on ising above pressure and social media. My daughter has thanked me for it - she thinks its wonderful - which clearly means there are gaps in what I have told her about growing up that she is finding answers to in this book. I think we overestimate how much we think they know and how much we have actually spoken to them about. Ms Cook is a legend.

Girls Stuff... For girls

I bought this book as a gift for my daughter who's almost 11 years. We sit down every few nights and read a section that is relevant to what's happening in her life at the time. It takes the pressure off me to bring up topics or know what she needs to know. And it's a great way for us to connect and share. It's really informative and fun reading and it seems to set off conversation about what's happening at school. Love it. Great tool for parents and young girls as they approach those Gard teen years

Bought one, and then another

I bought one for my miss 11 and 12 as a reference, but then I opened it and realised that I needed two, as it was likely that they would refer often, and probably not want to share it. Held out until I had both, and set them loose. I see them thumbing through for the next 10 years perhaps.

Perfect Mix

4

I bought this book (after reading other reviews) for my 11 year old daughter. Some of the chapters are a little old for her just yet but the mix of humour and frankness is the perfect way of sharing this important information to children who are probably hearing a lot from school friends (that may not be so accurate). I highly recommend this book.

Kaz Cooke

About the Author

Kaz Cooke is an Australian author, cartoonist and radio broadcaster.

Her background is in news and feature journalism in Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin. Her career began a month after she left school, in 1981, at The Age newspaper and since then she’s written for heaps of other major daily newspapers (The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and the Canberra Times) and magazines (including Who Weekly and the Women’s Weekly).

Since becoming a Mum in 1998 she has mainly worked from home writing books in her pyjamas; and still doesn’t know why there were books in her pyjamas (boom, boom). There have been some scuttling forays into radio shows with varying degrees of success (from “this is fun!” to “I’d rather eat my own shins with a fork”). Kaz illustrates her own work with cartoons, since 1983 often featuring Hermoine the Modern Girl.

She continues to write books with her trademark mix of meticulous research and trustworthy information untainted by commercial interests, and blended with her friendly tone, honesty, sharp wit, and pyjamas. Kaz lives in Melbourne with her family and enjoys toast.
