A tour de force of a memoir in an unmistakably Australian voice. Often humorous, always with a heart for the underdog, Fragments From a Forgettory could also be described as a kind of love story. A cornucopia of reflection, comment and humorous insight.

Good-humoured, often witty, sometimes opinionated, it draws the reader into the Australian experience from the beginning to the present.

A spiritual journey of a kind. A cascade of personal thoughts, wry insights and slyly humorous musings are offered in an invitational tone. A compelling read about an astonishing Australian life that is also a journey through half a dozen of the white tribes of Oz, against the historical backdrop of a British and Irish convict underclass creating an often-envied antipodean democracy.

A book to dip into and pick up later. Not totally engrossing but interesting enough.
