About the Author

Geoff Swinney is the research curator of Lower Vertebrates and Mollusca for the National Museums of Scotland. His expertise includes taxonomy (classification), the ecology of deep-sea midwater fishes, and the history of museum collections and their usage. He resides in Scotland.

About the Illustrator

Janeen Mason is the secretary of the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and serves on the board of directors of the Friends of the Blake Library. Her accolades include a Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award and the U.S. Maritime Literature Award. Mason has appeared on the PBS program NOVA scienceNOW, and she is a popular guest on radio. She is the author and illustrator of Ocean Commotion: Sea Turtles, Ocean Commotion: Life on the Reef, and Gift of the Magpie and the illustrator of The Pirate, Pink; Pirate Pink and Treasures of the Reef; Kissimmee Pete, Cracker Cow Hunter; Kissimmee Pete and the Hurricane; and The World’s Greatest Explorer. Mason lives in Stuart, Florida.
