In the laugh-filled tradition of The Full Monty, The Castle is a hilarious comedy treat critics are calling one of the year's funniest movies!

Even though there's an airport practically running through their backyard, the eccentric Kerrigan clan loves their humble home. But when the airfield needs room to expand, the government says that the Kerrigans have got to go!

With an irresistible charm and irrepressible humour everyone is sure to enjoy, the hilarity then really takes flight when this funny family decides to stay and fight for their beloved 'Castle' no matter how far the conflict goes!

What more can you say about "The Castle" than "Brilliant!"?

There is nothing to not like about "The Castle"; when a movie puts into the Australian vernacular such gems as "Aaah! The serenity!" and "Tell him he's dreaming!" then that's the sign of perfection.

An Aussie Classic!

It's great to see an Aussie classic restored so we can watch it again.mog

An Aussie Classic - Funny!

This Aussie film, written by the Working Dog team, (Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner & Jane Kennedy) is a clever movie with big laughs, on a small budget. The story is of the little guy standing up to a rich corporation that is trying to forcibly acquire their dwelling which happens to be situated on lead laced landfill. The Kerrigans are a close knit, naive yet very much a functional family unit. Father, Daryl Kerrigan (Michael Caton) is a Melbourne tow truck driver with a heart of gold, who receives a compulsory acquisition writ from his neighbour - International Airport's freight handling business, Airlink. Daryl wants to fight this federal action and hires unqualified for Federal Court law, bargain basement, small claims solicitor who hilariously takes on the case with his defence being "the vibe" of breaking some of Australia's constitutional laws. This is certainly not a courtroom film. This is a well-conceived, simple story of love for a family, and that a man's home is his castle, created by love and memories. This film does not take itself seriously and the result is a timeless, classic Aussie underdog comedy with Aussie wit by the (tow)truck load! Classic Daryl Kerrigan one liners have emerged from this film to enter into mainstream conversation. "Going straight to the poolroom", "Tell him he's dreamin'", "How's the serenity?" This film proves you don't need a big budget to produce a great gem. Simply ingenious! Also available on the DVD version is an audio description option for the visually impaired and English language subtitle option for the hearing impaired. A shame no personal commentary available for insights/inspiration about the film.
