Orange is the New Black is a fierce and funny series that follows Piper Chapman (Schilling) when a crime she committed in her past sends her to an all-women's prison with an unforgettable and irreverent group of fellow inmates.

Season 1

Based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman, the series is about engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman, whose decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex results in her arrest and year-long detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiancé Larry, for an orange prison jumpsuit and a baffling prison culture where she is forced to question everything she believes about herself and the world at large. As she struggles to adjust to her new reality, she finds unexpected laughter, tears, conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric and outspoken group of inmates.

Season 2

The second season of Orange Is the New Black begins with Piper (Taylor Schilling) facing the consequences of her actions. Elsewhere, Red (Kate Mulgrew) feels isolated, while Taystee (Danielle Brooks) shows off her business skills. Later, Morello (Yael Stone) gets her heart broken, Larry (Jason Biggs) makes changes to his life, and Piper starts a prison newsletter.

Season 3

A new regime has arrived at Litchfield in Season 3, with it comes new business interests, spiritual movements, and parental problems that turn life behind bars upside down and ignite power struggles among Litchfield's residents and guards.

Season 4

Season 4 begins moments after the transcendent beauty of the Season 3 finale, picking up with the creation of bunk beds in the dorms. Orange thus immediately takes on the issue of prison overcrowding by immediately doubling the occupancy of the prison without additionally addressing the major infrastructure issues that occur.

Industry Reviews

'In Jenji Kohan's magnificent and thoroughly engrossing new series, Orange Is the New Black, prison is still the pits. But it is also filled with the entire range of human emotion and stories, all of which are brought vividly to life in a world where a stick of gum could ignite either a romance or a death threat.' Hank Stuever, The Washington Post

'Many creators talk about the freedoms offered by television's new platforms, but Kohan is one of the few to snatch those freedoms, stuff them in a bag, and take off on a wild joyride like this.' Andy Greenwald, Grantland

'We're extremely pleased to serve our time with this show.' Chuck Barney, San Jose Mercury News

'The cast is as terrific as the parts they play.' Dorothy Woodend, The Tyee

'Orange is the New Black mixes in a good deal of grit with its laughs.' - David Hiltbrand, Philadelphia Inquirer
