Janet King - Marta Dusseldorp

Released: 18th April 2014
Classification: M
Region: 4 (Australia & New Zealand)

RRP $29.95

Senior Crown Prosecutor Janet King (Marta Dusseldorp) returns from maternity leave determined to prove she still has her edge. But Janet finds a very different Department of Public Prosecutions. The Attorney General has insisted on a closer working relationship with police and Chief Superintendent Jack Rizzoli (Vince Colosimo) has taken an unnerving interest in prosecutions, while ambitious newcomer Owen Mitchell (Damian Walshe-Howling) isn't afraid to bend rules to score a conviction.

When Janet's first seemingly straightforward case escalates into a shocking murder, she is propelled into a complex web of corruption and conspiracy that shakes the police, judiciary and government to the core. With the institutions of justice compromised, prosecuting the murder becomes a dangerous battle of strategy and betrayal which will threaten Janet's career, family and ultimately her life.

    Comments about Janet King:

We first met Janet King in her role as a barrister working with the NSW DPP in "Crownies", who happens to be in a same-sex relationship, played brilliantly by Marta Dusseldorp. In series one of the spin-off show called "Janet King" we see her expertly juggling her duties between, on one hand, striving to solve the murder of the police commissioner, who had himself been accused of the murder of his wife, as a mercy killing and, on the other, winning case after case as a leading barrister for the crown. The dialogue is witty and constantly spiced with intriguing tiny nuggets of law – always explained in natural conversation between legal colleagues in a way simple enough for lay people to understand. Brilliant entertainment.
