Based on the international best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods follows Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) as he embarks on a road trip across America with the enigmatic conman Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane).
On their journey, Shadow discovers that Mr. Wednesday is in fact one of the old gods brought to this country by settlers long ago, who warns of a war brewing between the forgotten old gods of myth and the new American Gods of money, technology and media. And as Shadow finds himself evermore deeply embroiled in this world of gods among men, he has a choice to make.
Should he follow Mr. Wednesday into battle and find out more about his own mysterious past or attempt to reconcile with his recently deceased wife (Emily Browning), who has now returned from the grave?
'The eagerly anticipated and much hyped adaptation is a dramatic, cinematic exploration of mythology and migration, pushing the bar of "prestige television" up yet another impressive notch.' - Jane Mulkerrins, Daily Telegraph
'American Gods demands to be seen on the biggest screen in your house. It is so visually impressive in its scope and imagination, experiencing American Gods on anything less than a 50-inch TV is a waste.' - Wenlei Ma, News.com.au
'The show's creators ... have put together a show with sensuous cinematography, full, tight shots, and bold colors, plunging the viewer even further into the world of gods and magic.' - Loren A. Lynch, The Nation
'This is a vivid, technicolor fever dream, awash in mysticism and the occult, remarkably strange yet oddly accessible. In short, American Gods is something of a miracle, worthy of being worshipped.' - Chris Evangelista, CutPrintFilm
'The best part of American Gods is how it reminds us that fisticuffs, coitus, theft, breaking bread and drunken carousing can all get human beings closer to our gods, who may be a lot more like us than we expect.' - Evan Narcisse, io9.com
