Nox is an arts graduate wondering what to do with his life. Taylor and Lizzy are famous indie musicians, and Rocky works the checkouts at Target.

When they find themselves trapped in a giant shopping centre, they eat fast food, watch bad TV and wait for the mess to be sorted. But when days turn to weeks, a sense of menace grows.

About the Author

Brendan Ritchie is a writer and filmmaker from Fremantle, WA.

He grew up in the sleepy coastal town of Esperance where he surfed a little, did okay at English and bunkered down with books like The Outsiders and The Sword of Shannara.

After school he moved to Perth to study filmmaking at university. Here he made a series of films (some good, others not so good), and started discovering artists like Arthur Nersesian, the Coen Brothers and Arcade Fire.

Brendan’s debut YA novel Carousel has its origins in all of these things. It’s full of pop culture, fantasy and isolation and pays a sheepish homage to Haruki Murakami and all of his greatness.
