Professor Hawking was a brilliant theoretical physicist, an influential author and thinker, and a great popular communicator. Throughout his career he was asked questions by business leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs, academics and the general public on a broad range of subjects, from the origins of the universe to the future of the planet.

BRIEF ANSWERS TO THE BIG QUESTIONS brings together his thinking on the most timeless and the most-timely questions in science:

Where did we come from?

What is inside a black hole?

Is there other intelligent life in the universe?

How will we survive on earth?

How can we colonise space?

Will we ever be able to go beyond the Solar System?

For both the scientific and the intellectually curious, this book celebrates the mind, humour, and achievements of one of the most inspiring figures in recent history.

The book will include an Afterword from Lucy Hawking and a percentage of all royalties will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Stephen Hawking Foundation.

Industry Reviews

A beautiful book from a brilliant mind - Daily Telegraph

Almost everything in Brief Answers is effortlessly instructive, absorbing, up to the minute and - where it matters - witty - Guardian

The best, most mind-bending sort of physics: black holes, time travel, the origins of the universe - The Times

It is that ultra-distinctive voice (modest, profound, sometimes very funny) that knits this book together - Sunday Times

A well written investigation of answers to Big questions

I cannot fault this book. It is brilliant in concept and written well. Unlike his 'Brief History of Time' this book is very easy to read and indeed does provide Hawking's answers to some of the major questions of our existence on this planet and in the space-time continuum. Explanations are well researched and written in a very engaging way.

Life changing

I have sent this book to several friends . .While David Attenborough warns us of a grim future if we don't look after the planet ,it's clear that if we don't learn how to care for each other ,the future is as bleak . Most important is the revelation that drug companies have been lying to us about treatments for depression . Johann Hari offers solutions as well as setting out the problems and causes of our poor mental health . This book should be compulsory reading for all health professionals ,employers and possibly for all year 10,11,12 students so that they step out into the adult world well prepared .

Well-written and insightful.

A book that you can read over and over and always find something new to inspire your thinking.
