Military history
For Valor is a book that’s both about military history, and by an Australian author. It details the 100 Australians who have been awarded the Victoria Cross over the years. This is an award given to those who make exceptional acts of bravery and self-sacrifice in battle, and the book explores who each of these selfless humans were and why they received the award. Going back to the Boer War and First World War, and including battles from Vietnam, Russia, and Afghanistan, this is truly an important read for those interested in Australian history.
Another great read is Stirling’s Men, an inside history of the SAS during World War II. Author Gavin Mortimer interviewed nearly sixty veterans to pull together the original stories, some of which had never before been shared. It shares the stories of the soldiers who underwent some of the most gruelling training on the planet, who raided airfields, parachuted into occupied territory, and so much more.
Military leadership
Some military leaders leave a lasting impression on those that follow them, and make an enduring difference to the organisation itself.
