When my grandma was younger she crossed rivers and mountain ranges, explored jungles and towering cities... Now her legs can't carry her much further than the door. But she still travels – and sometimes she takes me with her…

Grandma has been all over the world, to India, Egypt, China and Peru. Now she’s old she can only travel through her stories and memories. But with the help of all the fascinating objects in her room, she takes off with her grandchild to visit Delhi, Rome, Jerusalem and New York, and Grandma shares all her knowledge and experience. Grandma may not remember what happened yesterday and people say she doesn’t know where she is, but she’s a treasure trove of information about the world and her granddaughter can’t wait to go on another adventure with her. Where will they go next?

Book Features:
  • Moving depiction of a loving and imaginative relationship between grandparent and grandchild.
  • Sensitive and positive approach to the topic of memory loss and dementia.
  • Vibrant paintings of countries and cities all over the world.

Industry Reviews

"This story is told from the perspective of a child whose grandmother has dementia. Her grandmother used to travel the world, but these days she hardly ever leaves her chair. The child adores her grandmother's stories, shared facts, and imagined and remembered travels. Granny and her grandchild enjoy imagining the wonders of the world, from Paris and New York to Delhi and Jerusalem. The endnote includes information on dementia and how many people it affects in the UK on average. The painted illustrations are bold, beautifully depicting the vibrant environments described in Granny's travels. VERDICT A child-friendly introduction to dementia."
