The red carpet was star-studded with some of the Australian book industry&#8217;s heavy hitters, including Jimmy Barnes, Richard Fidler, Jessica Townsend and Michael Robotham.<\/p>\n<p>The night kicked off hosted by The Checkout&#8217;s Zoe Norton Lodge and Ben Jenkins, with special guest Julia Gillard presenting the big award of the night &#8211; the Gold ABIA Book of the Year award &#8211; to newcomer Jessica Townsend.<\/p>\n<p>For entertainment, guests were delighted by The Chaser&#8217;s Andrew J Hansen&#8217;s highly comical and creative musical stylings. Awards\u00a0on the night were also presented by superstar authors like Jennifer Egan, Garth Nix, Maggie Beer, Clementine Ford, Richard Fidler and so many more!<\/p>\n<p>With great food, wonderful Up against\u00a0powerhouse picture book authors\u00a0like the awesome Aaron Blabey and the marvellous Mem Fox, Zoe Foster Blake took this award for her charming book about a fart who just wants to be liked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/nevermoor-jessica-townsend\/prod9780734418074.html?utm_source=blog.booktopia.com.au&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=nevermoor\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-80438\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-04-at-8.39.47-am.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It came as no surprise when Jessica Townsend&#8217;s name was called yet again as the winner for the Book of the Year for Younger Children (ages 7-12) award. Jessica strongly believes that\u00a0children&#8217;s literature is in a\u00a0<em>golden age<\/em>\u00a0in Australia at the moment and\u00a0her Nevermoor series couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time. As a child, Jessica couldn&#8217;t get enough of the<em>\u00a0<\/em>Tomorrow Series by James Marsden.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-80472 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Untitled-design-68.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The author that I devoured was John Marsden,&#8221; says Jess. &#8220;I started reading\u00a0<em>Tomorrow, When the War Began<\/em> when I was eleven and I read every single one.
