Not only are children (and adults) devouring his books globally, it has just been confirmed that Hollywood is now turning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/the-bad-guys-by-aaron-blabey\/series4747.html\">The Bad Guys<\/a> book series into a film!<\/p>\n<p>If the name <em>Aaron Blabey<\/em> sounds familiar, it\u2019s because it is. In 1998, Blabey acted in <em>The Day of the Roses, <\/em>and the following year in <em>Erskineville Kings<\/em> alongside Hugh Jackman and Joel Edgerton. <em>Human Touch<\/em> soon followed in 2004. He also starred in the ABC series <em>The Damnation Of Harvey McHugh<\/em>, for which he won an AFI award. On a particular stroll one day, the idea for several of his now bestselling books came to him. \u201cI had no ideas, and all of a sudden by the end of that week there was <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/pig-the-pug-aaron-blabey\/prod9781743624777.html\">Pig the Pug<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/the-bad-guys-aaron-blabey\/prod9781760150426.html\">The Bad Guys<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/thelma-the-unicorn-aaron-blabey\/prod9781743625804.html\">Thelma the Unicorn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/piranhas-don-t-eat-bananas-aaron-blabey\/prod9781743625781.html\">Piranhas Don\u2019t Eat Bananas<\/a>, <\/em>and<em> I Need A Hug<\/em>. It\u2019s such a thrill\u2026 I just don\u2019t have it in me to do <em>Miffy,<\/em> or something where it\u2019s cute. It\u2019s great and fantastic that sort of stuff, but it\u2019s not me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Aaron Blabey draws Pig the Pug!\" width=\"1250\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hB-nunxTLT8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/pig-the-pug-by-aaron-blabey\/series4573.html\"><em>Pig the Pug<\/em><\/a> is the hilarious story about a greedy and selfish pug that teaches children about sharing. Globally, more than 1.3 million copies have been sold. Now Blabey endeavours to write and illustrate one <em>Pig the Pug<\/em> book a year alongside his other projects, which never amount to under five in total.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never work on less than five, and my reasoning for that is, working on at least five stops me from turning into Gollum. What I mean by that is, if you\u2019ve got the one manuscript you\u2019re working on, it can so easily become your precious and it can go wrong. If it doesn\u2019t go your way you can turn in on yourself, and I feel that really strongly. I\u2019ve experienced it in the past and have become superstitious about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alongside his Pig the Pug books, Blabey writes and illustrates two books a year from his Bad Guy series, another riotously funny comedy about a crew of scary animal pals (a wolf, snake, shark, and piranha) who want to change and shake off their notoriously bad reputation. This is the series getting the Hollywood treatment and being published in over 28 countries including the USA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/the-bad-guys-by-aaron-blabey\/series4747.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-74565 size-full\" title=\"The Bad Guys hit Norway!\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Norway.jpg\" alt=\"The Bad Guys hit Norway!\" width=\"665\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n\u201cThe prepping, writing, and designing\/ thumb-nailing process of <em>The Bad Guys<\/em> is really mad because it takes me about \u2026 three weeks.\u201d While text may be sparse, there are 150 pages of art to illustrate per book.<\/p>\n<p>Has Blabey assigned voices to his characters? \u201cThe Bad Guys feels like a long story board for a film so it helps to cast the voices in my head. It\u2019s a little like a moveable feast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As with most authors, Blabey plays certain music to inspire him while illustrating. \u201cSoundtrack is really important to me. I have a massive record collection, a couple thousand records in my studio of all genres, but when I\u2019m doing a <em>Bad Guys<\/em> rough [draft] I listen exclusively to metal. It\u2019s really strange. That\u2019s just \u201cfantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And finally, Blabey\u2019s advice for aspiring authors: \u201cThe key to all of this is persistence. Just don\u2019t give up.
