{"id":63622,"date":"2016-09-07T11:17:47","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T00:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/?p=63622"},"modified":"2016-09-14T10:05:46","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T23:05:46","slug":"booktopians-thoughts-three-new-harry-potter-ebooks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/blog\/2016\/09\/07\/booktopians-thoughts-three-new-harry-potter-ebooks\/","title":{"rendered":"A Booktopians thoughts of the THREE new Harry Potter eBooks."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, so here I was thinking I had found closure with my first book love after reading <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child-parts-i-and-ii-j-k-rowling\/prod9780751565355.html\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then Pottermore just casually drop <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/harry-potter-ebook-exclusives\/series5333.html\" target=\"_blank\">three new titles<\/a> and suddenly I\u2019m a kid all over again, with her deepest wish of attending Hogwarts almost coming true. I mean, it wasn\u2019t cool Hogwarts rejected my application when I got tired of waiting for an owl that didn\u2019t arrive, but these three eBooks are a glimpse into the life I should have had.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In my heart, I\u2019ve <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/ebooks\/short-stories-from-hogwarts-of-power-politics-and-pesky-poltergeists-j-k-rowling\/prod9781781106297.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-62856\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/hp-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"hp 3\" width=\"188\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always known I was destined to be a Ravenclaw (confirmed by multiple sorting hat quizzes) so these three new titles screamed my nerd name from first glance. Interestingly, each story is a short, one hour read with no trace of Harry and his friends, however there&#8217;s just enough to entangle you in the magical world once again, and leave you craving more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven\u2019t read the books or fangirled over the films, I\u2019d suggest you stop reading here. These truly are the perfect companion to the stories and characters we know, and they could hold spoilers for you. O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">r continue to read them. You\u2019ve been warned nonetheless. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you ever needed to understand why you hate Dolores Umbridge more than Voldemort, this book explains it. I can\u2019t even write this without getting angry. Maybe it\u2019s an empathy thing, but we finally understand our hatred for Umbridge after we learn of J.K. Rowling\u2019s reason for having such a character.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s also a guide to the previous Minister&#8217;s For Magic which is pure gold (#TeamShacklebolt the whole way, amiright?); a history of Azkaban; a wonderful insight into Horace Slughorn and the importance of potions, and of course, a little more insight into our favourite poltergeist, the appropriately named Pe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/ebooks\/hogwarts-an-incomplete-and-unreliable-guide-j-k-rowling\/prod9781781106273.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-62857\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/hp-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"hp 2\" width=\"203\" height=\"305\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This may not be the incredible piece of historical literature that we all imagined Bathilda Bagshot\u2019s <em>Hogwarts: A History<\/em> was, but it comes pretty close. Set over six chapters, this doesn\u2019t just cover the castle and its grounds, but also its permanent residents and its importance in the journey to wizardom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you weren\u2019t crying about missing out before, you will be after this. Keep the tissues handy if you\u2019re still struggling with muggle-dom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The adoration and respect I have for Minerva McGonagall (as all good Hogwarts students do) is limitless, and her story just might leave you emotionally wrecked. Or perhaps I\u2019m just an overly invested fanatic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.booktopia.com.au\/ebooks\/short-stories-from-hogwarts-of-heroism-hardship-and-dangerous-hobbies-j-k-rowling\/prod9781781106280.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-62858\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.booktopia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/HP-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"HP 1\" width=\"206\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a>There\u2019s also the story of one of my personal favourite Marauder\u2019s, Remus Lupin. We also gain insight into Professor Trelawney and Silvanus Kettleburn, the former Care of Magical Creatures teacher. My only grievance\u00a0with this eBook is I can\u2019t see how having a menagerie of potentially harmful animals is a \u2018dangerous hobby\u2019. \u00a0But maybe my dreams of owning a hypogriff or an owl make me a little biased.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look, I won\u2019t lie. No matter how much content is available in these kinds of stories, there will never be enough to satisfy our hunger for more magic. And as we all know, J.K. Rowling is finished writing about Harry Potter. But these eBooks are a start\u2026 \u00a0a wonderful gateway into the wizarding world.
