For those living in New South Wales (or beyond!), if you don’t have any plans this\u00a0Labour Day Holiday Weekend, why not head to Newcastle for the National Young Writers’ Festival<\/a> (NYWF)? Every year, Newcastle hosts the thousands of artists and art enthusiasts who flock to the annual NYWF, which promises attendees this year a masquerade ball, a science party and an open mic night.<\/p>\n

The 2016 festival\u00a0will be on\u00a0between Thursday September 29th and Sunday October 2nd.<\/p>\n

As Australia’s largest gathering of young and innovative writers, the NYWF’s aim is to host \u2018writing\u2019 in all its various forms, including comics, blogging, screenwriting, song writing, the spoken word, hip hop music, journalism and more! Expect panels, discussions, workshops, launches, performances, readings, installations, and more.<\/p>\n

The NYWF is also the co-presenter of This is Not Art<\/a>. Join other like-minded people and get ready for some fun at one of the 191 free events. There’s a masquerade ball, a science party, pop-up street events and open mic nights!<\/p>\n

Writers to expect include: Osman Faruqi, Alia Gabres, Liam Pieper, Briohny Doyle, Zohab Khan, Alison Whittaker, Omar Musa and Shu-Ling Chua.<\/p>\n

Co-director David Graham said of this year’s program:<\/p>\n

‘It really is a creative hub of activity with a lot of the emerging writers getting to meet, rub shoulders and share their ideas. We predominately have writers talking about writing in various aspects. We have several formats: panels, readings, round tables, workshops and we also have debates this year, as well as extra performances.’<\/p>\n
