The second book of the trilogy, The Novice<\/em>, was published in June 2002 and was nominated for the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel. The third book The High Lord<\/em> was released in January 2003 and was nominated for the Best Novel Ditmar category.<\/p>\n

In 2007, Graeme completed his PhD in information systems and enrolled in the professional screenwriting course at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. While waiting for The Rosie Project<\/i> to be produced, he turned it into a novel which in June 2012 won the Victorian Premier\u2019s award for an unpublished fiction manuscript.<\/p>\n

Keneally was known as “Mick” until 1964 but began using the name Thomas when he started publishing, after advice from his publisher to use what was really his first name. \"Henry\"<\/a>33. Henry Lawson<\/h2>\n

Born on June 17, 1867, in Grenfell, Lawson is considered one of the leading writers of Australia’s colonial period. He was the son of a Norwegian seaman, Niels Larsen, who later changed his name to Peter Lawson.\u00a0 In Henry’s early years, the family lived on a poor selection in the Mudgee district. Lawson suffered from deafness and was often teased as a result.<\/span><\/p>\n

His parents separated in 1883, and Henry moved to Sydney with his mother, Louisa. It was there that Louisa began publishing the feminist newspaper The Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He wrote short stories and ballad-like poems, illuminating the lives of rural, working Australians. He traveled extensively, and was frequently published in the Bulletin<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

32. Helen Garner<\/h2>\n

Helen Garner’s first novel, Monkey Grip<\/i>, was published in 1977, and immediately established her as an original voice on the Australian literary scene. She is known for incorporating and adapting her personal experiences in her fiction, something that has brought her both praise and criticism, particularly with her novels, Monkey Grip<\/i> and The Spare Room<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, Garner has written both fiction and non-fiction. She attracted controversy with her book The First Stone<\/i> about a sexual harassment scandal in a university college. She has also written for film and theatre, and has consistently won awards for her work.<\/p>\n

In subsequent books, she has continued to adapt her personal experiences. Her later novels include The Children’s Bach<\/i> and Cosmo Cosmolino<\/i>. In 2008 she returned to fiction writing with the publication of The Spare Room<\/i>, a fictional treatment of caring for a dying cancer patient, based on the illness and death of Garner’s friend Jenya Osborne. Kate Grenville is one of Australia’s best-known authors. She’s published eight books of fiction and four books about the writing process. Her best-known works include the international best-seller T<\/em><\/a>he Secret River<\/a>, The Idea of Perfection<\/a>, and The Lieutenant<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Secret River<\/em> has won many prizes, including the Commonwealth Prize for Literature and the Christina Stead Prize. It was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and the Miles Franklin Award.<\/p>\n

Winton’s fifth novel, Cloudstreet<\/em>, the story of two working-class families rebuilding their lives, was a huge literary and commercial success. It has been a best seller since its publication in 1991 and was recently voted the most popular Australian novel by the Australian Society of Authors. Awards include National Book Council Banjo Award for Fiction, 1991; West Australian Fiction Award 1991; Deo Gloria Award (UK), 1991 and the 1992 Miles Franklin Award.<\/p>\n

Film rights have been optioned to Phil Noyce\u2019s film company, Rumbalara Films, with Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz reportedly set to star in the film.<\/p>\n
